Jobs for Life in Winter Haven

Our first Jobs for Life class took place at a local church in the spring of 2016 and graduated 8 participants. It provided a community for each student, as they were being supported and encouraged by their faithful Champions (mentors), teachers, and the Jobs for Life team. The excitement was infectious! By mid-2020, over 100 students have participated in our area JfL classes, which have expanded to 5 sites.

In the spring of 2019, upon invitation from Sheriff Judd and the Polk County Sheriff's Department, we led a group of Polk County Jail volunteers to launch the first JfL men's class in a secure, faith-based area at South County Jail, offering the program to inmates nearing release. Then, in the fall of 2020, a women's JfL class began at Central County Jail!

To date, we've had over 120 volunteers that have helped us in the form of Champions, Instructors, Site Leaders, and serving on business panels, as well as others providing meals for our courses.

There are new area community classes starting in the Spring and Fall of each year, as well as classes at South County Jail and Central County Jail.
